John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Going back to the verse in John it says, “He gave His only begotten Son.” God still loved mankind. He wants us to live our eternity with Him in heaven. Heaven is a pure and holy place—just like God is pure and holy. We are sinners who needed a Savior to deliver us and cleanse us from our sin nature. God can not allow sin into heaven. Because God loves us He gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for our sin.
Hebrews 9:22, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission.” Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death”….
Wages is talking about what we earn for our sin. We have earned death—an eternity of suffering apart from God. But God doesn’t leave us there. The verse continues to read…”but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
God wants to give us the gift of eternal life. Jesus, the Son of God, paid for our sins on the cross. We have the free will to accept this gift or we can pay for our own sin debt for all eternity in hell—suffering and apart from God.
